Laboratory Economics - Labor Costs, Cost of Materials, What’s Your Production Number?

This program reviews some of the KPI systems used to help build a successful and profitable $12 million laboratory. We will look at methods used to evaluate what it cost to make each of our prosthetic products so we could decide which were more profitable, and which needed adjustment. We will also look at a monitoring system that measured productivity, and provided a tool to systematically determine pay rates for each employee.  Discussion will include remake allowances, setting fees, ROI on equipment, and outsourcing decisions.

  • What gets measured gets improved - but only if you're measuring the right things
  • Creating product-specific profit margin calculators
  • Evaluating equipment investments through proper ROI calculations
  • When to invest vs. when to outsource: Decision frameworks
